Prudential Term Life Insurance Products
While Prudential offers permanent policies such as Universal Life (UL), Indexed Universal Life (IUL) and Variable Universal Life (VUL- Through Pruco Securities), this post will concentrate on reviewing prudential term life insurance products.
Prudential Term Life Essential
Offered in terms periods of 10,15,20 & 30 years, this is the most commonly purchased Prudential term product. The least expensive of Prudential's term offerings, this policy is convertible to any of Prudential's permanent products without proof of insurability. That simply means no retaking of a para medical exam is needed.
Prudential Term Elite
This product is the same as the Prudential Term Life Essential except that your paid premiums will be credited toward your account if you convert to a permanent product within 5 years of purchase. This conversion credit comes at a cost, as Term Elite is more expensive than Term Essential.
Work Life 65
Work life 65 is the most interesting of the Prudential Term life insurance products because you do not see equivalent products from rival carriers in the marketplace.
Work life 65 will cover you through age 65. This means if you picked up the policy in your early twenties, you would have an affordable term policy in excess of 40 years.
Like the Essential and Elite products, Work Life 65 is convertible to any permanent product offered by Prudential at the time of conversion. Additionally, Work Life 65 offers a waiver of premium rider that protects against disability.
Prudential Term Life Insurance Underwriting Niche's
Like all term life insurance carriers, Prudential has pro's and con's to their underwriting standards. While this post will go over several conditions/situations where Prudential term life insurance is stronger or weaker than the competition, it is worth noting than Prudential has a general reputation as being more forgiving than most carriers.
Like with all carriers if you regularly smoke cigarettes you will be classified as a smoker. However, if you chew or dip tobacco, you use e-cigarettes or nicotine patches you may well qualify as a non-smoker.
Additionally, if you smoke cigars infrequently (<10 per year), you will not be designated as a smoker. These standards are among the most liberal of all carriers for tobacco use.
Prudential will consider applications from foreign nationals doing business in the United States. This alone, sets Prudential apart from many Us based carriers.
Active Military Service
Prudential has a reputation for being particularly friendly to active military personal. With no exclusions for acts of war, they are currently one of the only carriers who will take applications from soldiers with active deployment orders. (Note, that application must transact on U.S. soil.)
Prudential term life insurance is super competitive in cases of DUI/DWI. This is not because the insurance with Prudential will necessarily be cheap, but rather, because most others carriers will be punitive if they make an offer at all.
Like with the previous conditions, Prudential has a more favorable build chart than many of it's competitors. This is particularly true after the age of 60. To read more about how weight and build affect your underwriting classification click here.
Existing Medical Conditions
While it is not practical to go over how Prudential term life insurance underwriting treats all of the preexisting conditions out there, it is safe to say they are worth considering for many, if not most, existing conditions. Prudential has been a leader in underwriting taking medical advancement into consideration.
Prudential Term Life Insurance Review of Pricing
Prudential is super competitive in some cases and appears expensive in others. However, it is important to note that even in cases where they appear expensive they are often the best deal.
You may be asking: "How can the be?"
It all comes down to the underwriting class you are given. If Prudential is the most expensive of the major carriers at standard rates but the more competitive carriers would grade you as table 2/B or 4/D, then the "more expensive" standard rate would be the best deal.
If you would like to see accurate rates based on underwriting class for Prudential term life insurance, simply input your information into the quote tool and press "Display Quotes". Just bear in mind that, as I have discussed, the best rate is not always the best deal for your particular health situation.
